The illustrator is trying to show that in modern day people can easily be connected through technology. In this case its the internet. Even though she is physically alone in the room, she is with her online friends. I interpret that she is using facebook and all the people in the bubble are either people she's chatting with or looking at their pictures. Technology in the modern world have made all our lives easier and now it is possible to not be alone. Whenever someone has nothing to do or feels bored they can connect with whoever they want online.
In this image, I believe the author is trying to portray how the progression and improvment of technology, specifically social networking, can hinder a person's social life when interacting face to face. Through this image, it seems as if the girl is detaching herself from the world because everything around the room appears dull and non-important. As soon as you lay your eyes on this image, focus falls upon the girl, her laptop, and the bubbles coming out of the screen. The girl is in solitude and her way of communicating with others is through her laptop.
Within Adrian Tomine's artistic portrait he's trying to convey a certain feature that modern day teenagers are beginning to obtain. That feature is adolescents are more focused on their technology and social networking sites than they are of the outside world. As you can see, in the illustration everything in the background such as the books, board papers and paintings on the wall have no detail to them. This represents the fact that the girl with in Tomine's art is mainly focused on her technology and online friends is oblivious to her surroundings.
I believe the artist is trying to represent a present day college student. Her dorm room has empty frames, a bulletin board with empty papers, maybe the artist is showing us that these things aren't important to her. She is on her laptop, with a blank facial expression, most likely on a social networking site, watching people live their lives instead of living her own.
Has technology done more bad than good? In the image presented of what seems to be a typical teenager, I get the sense that technology has positive effects along with some negative effects. Technology has changed our lives drastically. A person can be sitting alone or far away and can still stay connected to their loves ones, their friends, and acquaintances of every background. However, on the downside of technology it has cut us off from the real world. The artist depicts a blanked face girl sucked into social networking. We have lost face to face interactions. We have secluded ourselves and now communicate with abbreviations and smiley faces. Sure we can have all these conversations but in reality we are just sitting alone.
The image seems to be conveying to an audience a message of isolation in a college student. First, she seems to be connecting to a social networking site instead of meeting new people on campus or talking to her roommates which can be seen as isolation from others. Based on all the empty portraits and lack of labeling throughout the room it seems as though her life is lacking interaction with the physical world or isolated from it. The bubbles further reinforce this idea because they portray her to be wrapped around a world of social networking that takes center stage in the picture and helps to dissolve out details of her life that are hidden in the background. Social networking seems to be an important part of this teenager's life and perhaps an escape from her isolation.
I think the artist is trying to portray a message about society and its codependence on technology for communication. The girl in the piece is physically alone in the room, but is surrounded by people in bubbles coming from her computer. This shows how human interactions have become more predominant through media and technology. Also the bubbles get bigger representing how once someone has personal information on the internet, the information only grows, and most anyone can access it. The communication and interactions through the internet are infinite. They continue to flow, shown by the empty bubbles coming from the computer.
This image is making a statement about a typical college student's life. Using an up close cropped scene of a young girl in a dorm room, the artist shows how she is isolated from the outside world. Although physically alone, she is still connected with others, a diverse group. Her facial expression is very calm and looks totally focused on her laptop. She is disconnected with her surroundings. That can be seen through the difference in the details of her surroundings and the details of the people in the bubbles. In the center of the picture is a guy who is enclosed in the rectangle. He appears to be of importance because the rectangle sort of forms a portrait of him. Also touching that rectangle is an incognito looking female, the only of the bunch. Within the bubbles of people there seems to be a story told too, signaling the complexity of social networking.
I think that the image is showing how people always want to stay connected with whats going on in the world. We always want to know what others are doing and where they are at. Basically whats going on in their lives. But to do this we no longer need to be face to face with the person or even make a phone call, we can just turn the computer on and enter a world in which we can find out anything about anyone or interact with different type of people at the same time. I find it interesting how the artist decided to chose a girl as the main focus instead of a guy. And also how there are more guys in this image than girls. Which might indicate that the girls from my generation spend a lot of their time interacting with different guys online, perhaps trying to get a boyfriend.
This image shows how a college student interact with people without having to leave her dorm. She uses technology as a form of communication to stay connected with the people in the bubbles coming from her computer. The bubbles show diverse people which can mean that she can keep contact with people throughout the world.
I think in this image the artist is trying to portray an average college student in her dorm room, completely indulging in different social networks connecting with friends through the web. The artist purposely detailed the bubbles with the different faces to show that the girl is communicating with different people and showing the message that even though she is isolated from the world in her dorm room she is still in contact with others. Overall, I think the essential idea of this image is " physically alone but mentally accompanied.." meaning she is alone tangibly but the bubbles represent the amount of people she is digitally communicating with.
This drawing has many interpretations, however I believe the person that drew this image was trying to express that there is a life through the media and electronics. The girl seems to be alone in the room but through her laptop and social networking, she has tons of friends. It is like she is drawn into the world inside the laptop and nothing else around her exists. We can assume that the real world does not exist to the girl because of the blank posters and books around her. It is interesting how something that does not physically exist but can grab so much attention.
I think the drawing is expressing the idea of isolation. This college student is locking her up in her dorm room. And the only link that letting her to connect the outside world is network. Even though she has tons of friends, but she is still unhappy since there is no emotion on her face. Also, all the surround is blank, and there doesn't have any details. I think it shows the girl feels empty even though there are friends on the social network.
My interpretation of Adrian Tomine's image is that the author is trying to convey a message by using a girl that is in her room using her laptop. I believe that the keep point in this image is the computer. The author uses the laptop to persuade a message to the public. The message that he is trying to convey could be that nowadays young adult use technology as daily bases and do not interact with others as much. Young adult isolate themselves from others and prefer technology as a way of interacting with other and meeting people. A good example is face book, many college students’ uses as a way to keep connected with their friend without having to see each others. .
This peice of art is potraying that college kids are unaware of the outside world so they rather search the engin so they connect themselves to the social networks. They use the social network to meet new friends with different diversities. Its showing that people become a little stubborn to go out and meet people so they rather connect with people through networks. This girl also looks comfortable in her environment showing that shes an ordinary college kid. Just searching the engine and becoming sucked in through the internet shows that this is what our generation is up to date on.
In this image, I see the artist's message as a way to connect with other people without physically being present. The image is called Facebook, on Facebook, people are able to communicate with one another no matter the distance between them. The connection between the people is illustrated with the bubbles coming from the computer screen. The bubbles are the people in her life and the more she talks to them, the bigger their bubbles get. They float around her as if their presence is with her in the room although she is completely alone. Everything around her in the room is dull but the people in the bubbles are colored and bring a quality of life to her.
